International Guild of Knot Tyers

Hamish MalcolmI’m a New Zealander-Australian who uses knots in rock climbing and as a marine scientist spending a lot of time on boats. I’ve had a long-term interest in knots from sailing and working in various commercial fisheries. I’ve become interested in the knots that eels tie, as an aside to my main research on fishes. Researching eel knots is how I came across the IGKT and Des Pawson.
I also love the aesthetics and utility of intricate decorative knots and wish I had the patience and skill to tie them myself, not having progressed much past Turks Heads and Monkey’s Fists. My hat is off to all you amazing knot tyers and the incredible knot work show-cased in Knotting Matters!
