Alaskan Branch Meeting
13th April 2005
Eight of our knot tying group showed up our weekly knot gathering today , a beautiful spring day, sunshining, snow almost all melted. Last week a baby moose chewed on some tree branches behind the Anchorage Senior Center where we meet, but no moose today that we could see.
Dan showed Charles how to tie the star knot.
Sarah brought a beautiful mat tied from recycled climbing rope.
Roy demonstrated his skills in tying the 5 by 4 Turks head to Richard.
Laura began learning the 7 by 6 Turks head.
George brought samples of braided nylon eye splices and talked about British explorer Ernest Shacketon's voyage to the Antarctic on the sailing ship "Endurance" in 1915.
Mike spoke about Danish explorer Vitus Bering and German naturalist Georg Steller's expedition to Alaska on the Russian sailing ship "Saint Peter" in 1741.
A great day of knot learning and history!
