Book of Condolence
In Memory Of Denis Murphy
Although I was never a member of the Guild, I do know how much my dad loved all and every person he interacted with in the Guild All our family will miss him. He was one of a kind.
May I thank all the Guild members for the wonderful comradeship they have given to Spud over the years.
He will live on in our hearts and in his work
Nigel Murphy
'Spud' was a long standing member of the Guild, also past council member and founder member of the 'West Country Knotters'. His drive and enthusiasm will be greatly missed, particularly by his Royal Navy Associates, as he could swing the lamp, as good as the rest. His links with the Sea Cadet Corps and young folks will long be remembered.

Guild President
It was with great sadness that I heard about Spud's passing as I spent many a long weekend in his company at Navy Days and other shows. He was a great asset to knot-tying. I for one will miss him dearly, but I know he's happy again as he is with Barbara once more. Fond memories

Spud always showed me great kindness on the occasions we met. At the Charlton House knotting extravaganza Spud bought and brought trays of soft drinks to keep us on track.

Denis was a lovely man who taught me a great deal. I shall miss his presence at the Dockyard open days, as will all who knew him there.
Goodbye my friend.

I will miss you, old mate. There will always be an empty seat in the car, and I will not be able to back chat a naval officer any more.
G. Storer ('young george')
Dearest Denis and his family, Your knots were good, your knots were strong, and your legacy will live on like the ring of a gong. Many wish they were as liked as you were, just as many trees wish they had leaves in the winter. You will be truly missed.

I have worked with Spud for a lot of years. One of the best knot tyers ever. He taught thousands of seacadets all over Great Britain and left his mark everywhere. I don't think that there is a seacadet unit in this country that has not gained off Denis and his great knowledge of knots. A truly great shipmate and I will miss him very dearly. As Tina Turner said "Simply the best". The I.G.K.T. has lost a great knot tyer. Also a good friend.
Good night. God bless from an old pal.
J.M.Noone RNR
Spud's legendary generosity behind the crusty manner was an experience in itself.
